Intergenerational Coffee Morning
During health week, Bellshill Academy Pupils and staff hosted a coffee morning for Sporting Memories Network group. This is a group of men who have been effected by early onset dementia. Following tea, coffee and cakes, pupils organised a sports quiz followed by competitive team games of indoor bowling, indoor curing and target practice with a bat and ball. The morning was a huge success with excellent feedback from both the pupils and the men’s group. Pupils then went on to visit the men’s group in the local community and surprised them with Christmas presents which the young people had donated. The school continues to foster a positive ongoing partnership with the men’s group and have more events planned. Many thanks to Norrie Gallaher who runs the group.
XL Enterprise Group
Third and Fourth Year XL Enterprise groups have been working hard to raise funds. They organised tuck shops for ‘Strictly Bellshill’, The Christmas Concert and The Christmas Dance. Pupils also made products to sell at Halloween and the Christmas Market. Pupils made the phenomenal amount of £320. Half the money will go to charity and the other half will subsidise a trip. The pupils have worked very hard and showed dedication by attending events in the evening out with the school day. Well done to all involved.
Duke of Edinburgh Practice Walk
With new camping equipment recently purchased, the Bellshill Academy Duke of Edinburgh group took part in a practice day walk. The pupils navigated round the local area with map and compass and with heavy rucksacks. They stopped to cook a meal on the camping stoves. The day was a great success, future walks have been planned to prepare the group for their camping expeditions in April.
