Class of 2016
Our S6 pupils left school last week after a fantastic Leavers’ Assembly. This was an emotional last day at school for a great year group – good luck to all.
Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) Project
We were delighted to hear that a learning resource ‘learnaboutair’ which the school developed with SEPA and other partners has really taken off and is now being used by many schools up and down the country. SEPA and North Lanarkshire Council submitted the package to the National Air Quality Awards, where under stiff competition from applicants across the rest of the UK we reached the finals. In recognition of this fantastic achievement, Dr Colin Gillespie, Principal Air Scientist at SEPA has invited, our pupils and Mr McBride, PT Science to SEPA’s Angus Smith Building in Eurocentral to receive finalist’s certificates. Many thanks to SEPA for acknowledging the work of our staff and pupils and well done to all involved.
Primary 7 Art Project
We were delighted to welcome P7 pupils to the Academy last week to take part in a new Art project. During the rest of this term all of the P7 pupils from our associated primaries will have the opportunity to take part in an exciting ‘screen printing’ art project organised by Miss McCormick in our Art department. A huge thanks to Tesco Bellshill who have contributed £50 from their community budget to help pay for t-shirts for all P7 pupils, these will be used for the screen printing.
S3 XL Presentation
Our S3 XLclass have worked extremely hard throughout the year and have raised money through their enterprising skills. This has allowed them not only to fund a trip for themselves, but also give something back to their school, local community and charities.
Last week a cheque was presented to Mrs Munro, during their showcase event where they demonstrated the skills they have developed through participation in a number of practical activities. The pupils are a credit to the school and many thanks to Ms Carr and Ms Macbean
For all their support.
Members of the Parent Council are delighted to have the opportunity to attend the North Lanarkshire Learning Festival on Wednesday 18th May.
