Primary – Secondary Transition Programme
As part of our transition programme, our Primary 7 Roadshows will begin on 6th November at Noble Primary School. Our Roadshows will continue at Lawmuir Primary School on Tuesday 12th November and at Mossend Primary School on Wednesday 13th November.
The Roadshows are a very important part of our programme to ensure that all of our Primary 7 pupils are well prepared for the transition to the Academy next August. Parents and P7 pupils are invited to participate in the roadshows which are led by Mr Johnston DHT and Mrs Munro HT. Our School Captains Sarah Cairney and Ross McAlpine will support S1 Academy pupils (pictured left to right Lauren O’Donnell, Josh Mills, Rachel Wightman) in delivering presentations to parents and pupils about their experiences at the Academy.
We would like to thank our colleagues in all of our primary schools for their support in preparing for the Roadshows. We look forward to meeting our P7 pupils and parents over the coming weeks.
Peer Support Programme
Last Wednesday senior pupils from the Peer Support Project attended an innovative event in the Lighthouse in Glasgow facilitated by national young scot and funded by the Scottish Government. The event focused on highlighting to young people the health risks associated with smoking.
Our students engaged exceptionally well with the other participants and their presentation was voted the best by the other 50 young people who attended. One of the organisers of the event contacted the school to report that the confidence and innovation of the senior students from the Academy was exceptional. The experience will become part of the student’s evidence for a Youth Achievement Award and next week the students involved will deliver a peer education presentation on smoking prevention to S1 pupils.
Some of our staff and senior pupils have volunteered to take part in this year’s Movember campaign by growing a stylish array of facial hair to support Men’s Health charities. The event is being organised in the school by Mr Davidson in The Learning Centre.
Senior students have organised a range of Halloween events throughout the week, including Pumpkin Carving and a Fright Night movie experience. All funds raised will go to charity.
All students in S3-6 have now been issued with their Interim Reports. Students will discuss their reports with their Tutors throughout the next week. Parents of students in S5 and S6 will have the opportunity to discuss their son/daughter’s report with their teachers at our Parent’s Meeting on Thursday 7th November. Full details of the meeting have been issued to pupils.
The next meeting of our Parent Council will take place on Monday 4th November at 6.30pm in the Jura Suite. All welcome
