Youth Link Scotland Awards, Volunteer Youth Worker of the Year
Alexander More, (pictured with Yvonne MacBean Partnership Officer) an S5 student at the Academy is a finalist in the Youth Link Scotland Awards, Volunteer Youth Worker of the Year in the category of Role Model. These awards are nationwide and Alexander has been successful in reaching the final 3. Alexander gives up his own time to volunteer with various youth groups across the community and in school. He is the ‘School Sports Ambassador’ and he is involved in the preparation for the Commonwealth Games as a ‘Youth Legacy Ambassador’. He is a fantastic role model and has a very positive impact on all youth groups and individual young people he works with. He has also completed a training course ‘First Steps to Youth Work’ in order to be qualified for this role. Alexander is a truly inspirational young person and we wish him every success in the fourth coming Award Ceremony. He was nominated by Yvonne MacBean, Partnership Officer at Bellshill Academy.
Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award
One of our S5 students Jamie Magee has just completed the practice Gold DofE residential in Dunoon, which involved a 57 mile walk over five days. Jamie took part in the expedition during the February holiday weekend together with a team of young people from North Lanarkshire. In preparation for the award, Jamie has also volunteered at our summer school and has worked within the Bellshill youth forum and youth club. We are delighted with Jamie’s achievements as part of the Duke of Edinburgh programme.
BBC School Report
BBC School Report is a nationwide initiative which allows pupils to research, write, present and broadcast their very own news programme. This year’s big day is Thursday 27th March and schools all over Britain – including Bellshill Academy – are putting together teams to make the news. Pupils who are interested in being involved in this year’s school report, should speak to Mr Scott in the English Department.
