Young Ambassadors Conference

Each school in the authority has the opportunity to have School Sports Ambassadors. A training day will be held at Hampden Park for all youngsters involved where they will get to meet and see presentations by famous Commonwealth and Olympic Athletes, on their journey to success. These youngsters will also be involved in workshops with pupils from other schools.

Bellshill Academy’s Young Sports Ambassadors will run and assist with sporting activities, help and encourage the uptake of extracurricular clubs, assist teaching staff and active schools coordinator with festivals and competitions in the primary schools and speak at Primary school assemblies.
Bellshill Academy will be represented by two senior pupils Megan and Jamie Rankin at the conference.

Eco Committee
Our Eco-committee will be led this session by Mr Snelling from the Geography department. The committee are planning to transform one of our playground areas into a sensory garden. Their plans are currently being developed and the committee are working on fundraising initiatives to support their work. The group are also looking for support from local business groups who might be able to help with this very worthwhile project. If any member of the community can help, please contact Mr Snelling at the school.

Senior students are currently involved in a wide range of events to help them prepare for Higher and Further Education and the world of work. Our students have had the opportunity to visit universities and workplace conferences and open days and we are grateful to Mrs Higgins and our Careers Adviser for supporting them in this process.

LAGTA Conference
A group of senior students attended an open day at LAGTA Bellshill on Thursday 17th September. The students found this to be a very worthwhile event.

Primary Transition Programme
The first of our Cluster Head Teacher meetings for this session will take place on Thursday 24th September. Mrs McGraw and Mrs Munro will meet with Mrs Hunter, Mrs Paterson and Mrs Bruce from our Associated Primary Schools to continue to plan for the current P7 pupils to move to the Academy next August. Mrs McGraw, Depute Head Teacher, has already visited all of the P7 pupils in their schools. Full details of our P7 Roadshows which will start after the October holiday will be issued to all of the P7 pupils very soon.

Welcome coffee morning
Our newly appointed staff joined senior staff at a welcome coffee morning this week.

Pupil Council
Mr Sexton, who leads our Pupil Council is working with our Tutor Teachers to choose our new Council for this session. Details of all of our new Council members will be available on our website after the September holiday.

Parent Council
Members of our Parent Council met with Yvonne Macbean our Partnership officer and Miss McCormick of the Art department this week to begin preparations for our Christmas Craft Fair. Full details will be given to all pupils as soon as possible.
