S4-6 Study Evenings

Staff at the Academy have been offering supported study events for our SQA candidates including a pizza and study night.  S4/S5/S6 pupils have been accessing departments for extra tuition and support after school, ahead of their SQA exams. We are delighted to see such a positive response from our young people.  These late night study sessions have also been effective for boosting moral and motivation at this time of pressure, as we approach final folio deadlines and assessments.  Once again our young people have demonstrated their commitment to being successful learners and the study nights have been a great success.

Bellshill Academy P6/7 Sport Transition Event

Bellshill Academy invited P6/7’s from their local feeder primary schools to take part in a PE Transition event on Friday 17th of March. Active schools coupled, with the PE department and sports student from UWS, organised a number of different activities for the pupils to participate in. Pupils were able to take part in various sporting activities, including dance, football and netball. The day offered pupils from Lawmuir Primary School, Noble Primary School and Mossend Primary School the opportunity to mix with their future classmates, meet the PE department and the Sports Ambassadors at the Academy. The day could not have ran without the hard work of the Sports Ambassadors, who organised and co-ordinated the event, ensuring pupils and teachers all had a positive experience. The P6/7’s are all excited for starting at the Academy in the near future and the event was thoroughly enjoyable for all pupils and staff involved.

North Lanarkshire Schools Cross Country Championships

Bellshill Academy recently took 16 pupils to compete at the North Lanarkshire Schools Cross Country Championships. The competition was of a very high standard but Bellshill Academy managed to achieve good results. In the S1 girl’s competition, Jenna Cole managed 6th place out of 103, while Karla Hillcoat managed 8th place which were both fantastic achievements. This coupled with Sarah De Beer’s placing of 56th managed to propel the S1 girls’ team into 6th spot overall. This was a wonderful achievement for the girls. The S2 boys’ team managed to place 9th in the overall standings. Well done to Luke Ramsey, Kian Grierson and Josh Lindsay for their contributions. Kieran Hogg in S3 also managed an impressive 9th place in a very competitive S3 boy’s event.  Well done to all involved in this competition.
