Congratulations to Bellshill Academy’s world class Pipers and Drummers.
Five of our pupils participated with North Lanarkshire’s Pipe Bands in the World Pipe Band Championships which took place at Glasgow Green in August. Pupils had the opportunity to compete against bands from all around the world including bands from Zimbabwe and New Zealand. We were delighted that so many of our musicians had the opportunity to celebrate their success at a reception for the Band held on 7 September in Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life.
Well done to Craig Peters and Cameron Clelland who played bagpipes to compete in the Novice A championship and won this class. To Aidan Beattie and Jordyn Graham who played bagpipes to compete in the Novice B championship and came 5th in this class. And to Lewis Connell who played Side Drum to compete in the Novice B championship and won this class.
S4-S6 Preparing for SQA Examinations
All pupils in S4-6 received their first reports for this session last week. The pupils have now been allocated mentors and mentoring meetings have started to ensure that the pupils are well prepared for SQA examinations. A full timetable of Supported Study classes has been issued to pupils and details of the classes are available on the school website. Our recent Careers Evening led by Glasgow University and SAAS staff was very well received by students and parents and presentations form the evening are also on the website.
Paired Reading and Buddying Programme
Miss Mitchell has started our paired reading and buddying programme for pupils in S1 and S2. This is a great opportunity for our senior students to work with and support our younger pupils with their reading skills.
ST ANDREW’S 6K FUN RUN
A huge congratulations to all pupils and staff who took part in the Fun Run last weekend. Everyone had a great time and many thanks to Miss Simonini for organising our involvement.
Charity Football Match
Well done to all of the staff and senior pupils who participated in the staff versus pupils charity football match last week. The event was a huge success and raised almost £1000 for the Samaritans. The manager of the staff team reported ‘today at approximately 2.55 referee, Mr McGuire, blew the whistle to end one of the most significant victories in recent times. Bellshill All-stars defeated the pupils 7-6’. The senior pupils are hoping for a re-match very soon!!!
Mr Linning is organising a trip for senior pupils Newcastle Centre for Life Visit on Monday 31st October. Limited places are available and anyone interested should speak to Mr Linning as soon as possible.
Creative Writing Club
The Creative Writing Club has now sold all of our booklets in aid of the Orbiston Centre Charity. Mr Maguire who runs the club, would like to thank all of our staff and students and members of the wider community for their extremely generous contributions.
