Bellshill Academy- Rugby Champions of Lanarkshire
Bellshill Barbarians have had a great season and their recent outing to the Lanarkshire School’s Cup on Friday 24th April was a great opportunity for the pupils to showcase their talents. The Barbarians entered the tournament with an unbeaten record, so confidence amongst the boys was high. This was a key contributor to their success and was illustrated with a brilliant victory against Uddingston Grammar by a margin of 5 tries to 1. The boys’ determination and resilience in the following game against Whitburn highlighted the spirit of the team by putting three tries on the board to nil. Bellshill were in the final! The final was against Coatbridge High, who were formidable opponents with a great run of results. The game was very physical with big tackles by both teams followed by some great phases of play allowing for both teams to score. However it was Bellshill who came out on top with an emphatic 2-1 victory, winning the competition.
Following on from this success Bellshill Academy’s rugby team entered another tournament on Wednesday 28th April competing against schools from across North Lanarkshire. After victories over Coatbridge High (7 Tries-0), Dalziel High (5 Tries- 1) and Airdrie Academy (3 Tries-0) our team secured another 1st place. Winning the second competition in two weeks is an awesome achievement which is savoured by all who play, coach and support. The team look forward to preparing for next season aiming to maintain this high standard of rugby. A huge thanks to Mr Clark for coaching and inspiring our team.
