Barbarians start season strong
The Bellshill Barbarians started this year’s campaign in style with a convincing win over Taylor High School. The team which consists of pupils from both ‘The Academy’ and Cardinal Newman looked to pick up from where they left off last season and with a strong defence and open running rugby, they managed to run in a number of tries with a final score of 76-7. A mention must go to Taylor high school for their determination in attack and defence but the Ba Ba’s performance was unmatched. In the spirit of the game, the two teams got together and played a mix up game. This offered a fine display of rugby and summed up the character of both teams and their passion for the game. The s1/2 team also got off to winning ways against Taylor and Coatbridge. The boys also willingly played for the Taylor High School when they were short of players.

St Andrews 6k Fun Run
The St Andrews fun run took place on the 20th September with a number of pupils and staff representing the school. So far we have managed to raise nearly £1000 for the hospice through the generosity of the community. With more events coming up throughout the year we hope to raise much more with your support.

School Visitor
Prolific children’s author Barry Hutchison visited the Academy on Wednesday 30th September and entertained our S1 with a fast-paced and very funny insight into why he writes, what he writes and why he writes what he writes. Barry has written over 70 books and read from two of them. The highlights, though, were definitely his memories of his childhood and how they inspire him to write books that are funny, thrilling and often scary. Barry’s books include The 13th Horseman and The Book of Doom and plenty of our pupils went away keen to read more of what Barry has written.
