Scottish Learning Festival

A huge well done to our S3 pupils who presented at the Scottish Learning Festival held in the SECC on Thursday 26th September. The pupils, Abby Cairney; Scott Mitchell; Robyn Gardiner; Aaron Clark; Cara Jackson; Fraser Foye and Georgea Speedie were an absolute credit to the school. Their presentation was on the impact of our iPad project and the feedback from the audience of over 100 educationalists was published on the Education Scotland website. Some of the comments included the following:

‘Great work students from Bellshill Academy – you had the audience captivated!’

‘Just saw a brilliant presentation on 1:1 mobile device use in schools by S3 pupils from Bellshill Academy’

‘Outstanding presentation by S3 Bellshill Academy pupils; inspiring and motivating.’

Teachers from Noble Primary and Bellshill Academy also delivered a joint presentation at the Learning Festival. During their presentation, they highlighted the very successful French link project which started last session. This project involved teaching a range of subjects through the medium of French. The initiative was so successful that staff in Noble Primary have continued to develop it this year, with the present P7 class already having completed one of their art lessons with only French being spoken to them. Many thanks to our colleagues at Noble Primary school for sharing this presentation with Academy staff.

Talent Show for Malawi

The Talent Show will be held in the Academy on Thursday 10th October. Tickets costing £4 are now on sale from the school.

Non Uniform Day for Malawi

Many thanks to all of our pupils and parents who supported our non-uniform day for Malawi. All of the proceeds will go to the Malawi fund.

Inter-House Cross Country Event

Pupils in S1 and S2 will have the opportunity to participate in an Inter House cross country event next week. The event will be used by the PE department to select our competitors for the North Lanarkshire cross country championships which will be held later this term. Good luck to all our runners.

Primary Transition Programme

Our P7 transition programme is well under way, with pupils from our Associated Primary Schools already participating in a range of events at the Academy, including the highly successful CSI Bellshill Science initiative. Last week we were delighted to welcome Head Teachers Mrs Lorraine Hunter, Miss Sheila Speirs and Mrs Angela Patterson to the second Academy Cluster meeting of this session to work with Mr John Johnston, Depute Head Teacher and Academy staff on our liaison schedule.

Staff Retirals

Two of our teaching staff will retire at the end of this term, Mrs Isobel Carter in the Support for Learning Department and Miss Yvonne Reid in our Home Economics Department. On behalf of all of our pupils, staff and parents we would like to thank them for their outstanding service to the school and wish them a very happy and healthy retirement.
