Maths Success – NLC Enterprising Mathematics Competition
Four of our S4 students represented the Academy at the NLC Enterprising Mathematics competition on Friday 19th September at Cumbernauld New Town Hall. Students from all NLC secondary schools were invited to take part in the annual competition and we were delighted that our students finished in fourth place. As a result of their success, our team has been selected with three other schools to represent the authority at the 23rd National Enterprising Mathematics in Scotland competition final. This event is due to take place at the Glasgow Science Centre on Tuesday 18 November 2014.

Well done to our team

Drama Performance
Bellshill Academy has been very fortunate in securing funding for two performances from a well established theatre company who have been funded by NHS Lanankshire as part of North Lanarkshire’s Mental Health Arts Week.

Pupils in S2 and S3 took part in the performances last week and were able to find out more about important issues such as cyber bullying and mental health issues. The pupils really enjoyed the performances.

Work Experience
Our S4 students will take part in the annual work experience programme from 6th – 10th October. Many thanks to the members of our local business community for supporting our students in providing such a worthwhile experience for them. Thanks also to our partner schools and nurseries for participating in the programme too.

Student Council
The first meeting of the session of our Student Council took place on Thursday 26th September. Further elections for new members will take during Tutor Time during this term.

Dodgeball tournament
Our PE staff have organised a dodgeball tournament which will be held during our health week which starts on Monday 20th October. Pupils who wish to take part, need to enter a team of 5 people at the cost of £5 per team, with all money raised going to charity. All entries, including the team name should go to Mr Clark in the PE department.
