Eco Committee News

Morrisons Lets Grow Vouchers

Congratulations and many thanks to all pupils, staff and parents who collected the Morrisons Lets Grow vouchers, and to Mrs Gilchrist who counted the vouchers – a staggering 10899 vouchers were collected this year and many pupils have earned several eco merits.

Eco merits can still be gained by pupils who collect an Eco Litter Voucher when seen putting their litter in a bin. Also pupils will be able to earn more Eco Merits before Christmas by bringing in items for the Rag Bag collection.

Pupils topping the ECO Merit list will receive their prizes before Christmas.

Eco Bag to School

The annual Bag to School will run from Mon 2nd Dec to Thursday 12th Dec. This is an ideal opportunity to

 Have a clearance of unwanted items before Christmas.

 Raise money to continue to improve the school grounds.

 Win House points.

All our pupils have been encouraged to take home a collection bag and return it to school with any of the items mentioned on the bag. The bags will be available from Tutor Teachers during Tutor Time from Monday 2nd Dec. Bags can be dropped off at the School Office and should be clearly marked with the pupil’s name and House.

Ethos Committee – Ben Nevis Challenge

The Ben Nevis Challenge has started and we are well on our way to our first ascent of Scotland’s largest Munro. A big well done to all of the pupils and staff who have already participated. (Photo attached)

School Show

Following a meeting of the School show Committee, we have decided that our show this year will be Calamity Jane. There are a lot of main parts and smaller parts – a list will be posted outside Music and Art next week and auditions for these parts will take place very soon. Pupils who are interested in helping us to present another fantastic Academy show should speak to Mrs Campbell or Mrs Stewart.

Malawi Team

The Malawi team are delighted to announce that the Academy has united with NLC’s ‘Aiming Higher in Malawi’ partnership. ‘Aiming Higher in Malawi’ is a partnership between NLC schools and Shire Highlands Education Division in Malawi. The partnership involves a number of pupils from various NLC high schools visiting Malawi and working on a range of educational projects there. The funds raised by our Malawi team will cover the cost of travel, accommodation and charitable work.

Our pupils will go to Malawi on the 10th June and the work they will do will be mainly centred on helping disabled pupils. More information on this will be shared with staff and pupils in the near future.

The team, led by Mrs Jodie McGraw,Depute Head Teacher, would like to thank our very generous Bellshill Community for the tremendous help they have already given to our pupils to enable them to have the experience of a lifetime.
