The Malawi Team have made excellent progress in preparing for their visit to the country to work with disabled pupils. So far they have personally hosted a number of events such as gala nights, ladies’ nights, raffles and discos as well as helping with school fund raisers. Many of the students have managed to exceed their personal fundraising target and are going to use the extra cash to support causes when they get there such as child sponsorship, schools, orphanages, feeding programmes and the education of girls.

ESU Debating competition – Monday 24th February
Conner McCall and Aaron Clark, both S3 students, represented the school in the second round of the ESU Debating competition. There were six teams taking part. The boys were outstanding in their presentation, offering and handling Points of Information confidently and clearly. They were not even phased by the difficult task of speaking against one of the judges who stepped in for a team that had withdrawn at the last minute. The boys were very unfortunate not to be selected for the next round of the competition. Nevertheless they were a credit to Bellshill Academy and are already preparing for their next competition at Strathclyde University in April. Many thanks to Mrs Drummond (Teacher Support for Learning) for her ongoing support of the Debating team.
This week’s film is The Fountain starring Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz. 3.40pm on Thursday in Jura, all S4-6 pupils welcome.

Rugby 7s is a fast and furious game that tests fitness and toughness to the limit. It’s also enormously good fun to play and you’ll see it in both the Commonwealth Games and the next Olympics. Training sessions will be held after school on Thursday nights and if you would like to take part see Miss Corkindale in PE or Willie Davidson in The Learning Centre.
