Throughout the week we have been celebrating the successes of our senior students who have done themselves and the Academy proud with their performance in this year’s SQA examinations. We are very proud of all of our students who have achieved their personal goals. Yet again we have had improved results in S4, S5 and S6. Our top performers, many of whom are pictured, have achieved excellent results, with our school Dux, Rachel Kidd, becoming our top student in S5 achieving 5 A passes at Higher. Their success and the success of all of our senior students have contributed to record results for the Academy in all year groups. Huge congratulations to our young people and with the best ever set of results for students leaving the Academy at the end of S6, we wish our leavers every success in their chosen careers.
Welcome to our new S1
We are delighted to welcome all of our new S1 pupils to the Academy. Our School Captains and Prefects and other senior students are working closely with the pupils to ensure that they settle into life at the Academy as quickly as possible. Many thanks to our parents and carers for their tremendous support of our school uniform policy.
Our S1 pupils had a great introduction to the Academy during another highly successful summer school organised by our Home School Partnership Officers, June Ford and Yvonne MacBean.
Almost 100 new first year pupils took part in a week long Summer School during the first week of the school holidays and tried their hand at all sorts of new activities that would help them feel more prepared for starting the ‘Big’ school. The programme was a fantastic success and it gave our pupils an opportunity to meet new classmates, get to know their way round the school building and meet some of the senior pupils who are now working with them as part of our Tutor Time programme. Before the Summer School all of the Senior Pupils had successfully completed a training programme called ‘First Steps to Youth Work’. They gave up a week of their summer holidays to support all of our new First Year pupils and the programme would not have been possible or as successful without their input. A great week was had by all and all new first year pupils involved will receive a Dynamic Youth Award.
The first meeting of our parent Council took place on Monday 19th August. We were delighted to welcome 2 new parents as members of the Council and if other parents would like to join, information can be obtained from Mrs Ward in the school office. In response to recent news reports, our first Parent Council event will be an information evening to support parents in helping to keep their children safe when using social network sites. Full details of this very important event will be given to parents as soon as possible.
