Children in Need
Our pupils participated in a range of activities to raise money for Children in Need and to have some fun at the same time. These included:
Just Joking – Joke Competition
Hair Dare – Pupils and Staff wore their hair in outrageous and wacky styles for the day at a cost of £1.
Guess Pudsey’s Birthday
The winner of our joke competition was Kim Jackson in S1. Mr Keith Sexton, PT Humanities came second, Mr Neil Fulton, teacher of PE third and Mr Alastair Scott, PT of English, fourth.
The winner of Pudsey was Josh Hendry in S1 who guessed the closest date to Pudsey’s birthday. Well done to the winners!!!
All of the events were organised by Miss Elizabeth Mitchell, Acting PT Pupil Support, Miss Wilson, teacher of English and the Charity Team and they want to thank everyone who participated for such a worthwhile cause.
Parent Council Tesco Bag Pack
A big thank you from the Parent Council to all who helped with the Parent Council Bag Pack on Saturday to raise funds for the school. Over £800 was raised and at the next meeting of the Parent Council, parents and staff will have the opportunity to discuss a range of school projects which can now be funded.
Well done to all of our swimmers who participated in North Lanarkshire’s School Swimming Championships last week. All of our swimmers performed to an excellent standard as the following results highlight:
Ellie Ramsay 4 Bronze medals
Liam McDougall 3 Silver and 4 Bronze medals
Rebecca Munro 2 Bronze medals
Ayesha McDonald 1 Silver medal
David McLuckie 3 Gold medals and 1 Silver medal
Niall Pryde in S1 also took part and improved his times gaining 4 personal bests.
A huge well done to our debating teams who have participated in a number of competitions recently. The highlight of these events was a fantastic win over The High School of Glasgow, Douglas Academy and Balfron High School at a competition on Tuesday 19th November.
Many thanks to Mrs Barbar Drummond, Support for Learning teacher, for her all the work she as done in coaching and supporting our teams.
Bellshill Barbarian Success
On Wednesday the Barbarians (a team made up of 8 Secondary schools in North Lanarkshire) beat Clydebank schools 36-0. Jamie Rankin, a Bellshill Academy pupil, scored the first try of the game within a minute of kick off. The boys from all schools continued to work hard in poor light to get another convincing win. This puts the team in a brilliant position for a semi final place after Christmas, with games at Dalziel Rugby Club the following two Wednesdays.
The Ben Nevis Challenge
The Ethos Committee has decided to commemorate St. Andrew’s Day 2013 with a sponsored activity for S1-S3 to support our Health & Wellbeing agenda and to raise money for school funds. Pupils and staff won’t have to travel to Ben Nevis but they can contribute to the ‘climb’ by completing a step challenge. (some of our eager participants are pictured) All pupils will be given the opportunity to do this in their PE lessons and will also be able to do extra climbs during lunchtimes. The total height climbed will be the sum of all the completed steps by the school. We will use the ratio of every 2 steps = 1ft climbed and see how high we can climb.
The ‘climb’ will begin on Monday 25th November and pupils who wish to take part have been issued with sponsorship forms. Further details can be obtained from Mr Paul McCranor, teacher of Chemistry or Mr Neil Fulton, teacher of Physical Education.
