Dragon’s Lair Competition
A huge congratulations to our senior students Megan Wallace and Pamela Prentice for an outstanding performance at the final of the Dragons Lair competition which was held at The Atrium in Coatbridge on Tuesday 17th December
Our students came 3rd out of 23 schools who entered the competition. Their presentation was described as ‘fantastic’ by one of the judges and our new Executive Director Andrew Sutherland congratulated Megan and Pamela on their presentation and innovative concept.
Many thanks to Mrs Lesley Heffernanm Principal Teacher Business Education and her team for preparing the girls so well. Their achievement means that we have not only secured a place in the final of the competition in the past 3 years, but we have won a place in the top 3 in each of these years. What a fantastic achievement for our students and for the Business Studies/ICT department.
Coca Cola Real Business Challenge
We are delighted that our S3 Business Management class led by Mrs Molly Tollanm teacher of Business Education, has reached the Scottish final of the Coca Cola Real Business Challenge.
The final is on 4 February 2014 at Murrayfield.
End of Term Activities
The last week of term has been a very busy one for everyone at the Academy with pupils and staff involved in a range of activities and events including:
S1 Pantomime Trip
The peer support Christmas Party
Senior Games afternoon
Inter – House Quiz
All of the events were really successful. The term concluded with a fantastic Christmas Concert on Thursday 12th December. A massive thank you to our Music Department, and everyone involved in making the concert such a fantastic success.
Congratulations also to our PE Department for organising our annual Christmas Ceilidh. Over 200 pupils took part and everyone had a great night.
ECO Merit Awards
Thank you to everyone who brought in Morrison’s vouchers and to those pupils who have gained eco merits for litter recycling – there was a tremendous response from all year groups. At Assemblies this week pupils were presented with eco awards for their efforts.
Lucy Bainbridge 1T5 , Jamie McEwan 2T8 and Jordan Bolton 1T5 were presented with Eco prizes for their tremendous efforts, whilst a large group of students were awarded eco merits.
Eco Committee – Christmas Cards
The Eco Committee are collecting Christmas cards again this year for the Woodland Trust. Last year we contributed around 13,000 cards to the total of 10million collected around the UK. We
are hoping to collect even more this year! This is a house competition which will be organised during Tutor time the first week after the Christmas holidays. Cards can also be handed in to the school office.
Christmas Wishes form the Academy
On behalf of all of the pupils and staff of the Academy we would like to wish all of our parents/carers and members of the Bellshill Community a really happy Christmas and wonderful New Year.
