The Big, Big Debate
On Thursday 11th September 20 senior pupils from Bellshill Academy were thrilled to be part of the Big Big Debate. This huge event took place at the SEC Hydro and involved over 200 schools from across Scotland and 7500 first time voters. The panel featured high profile members of both Yes Scotland and the Better Together campaigns and the students had a fantastic time engaging directly with politicians from both these camps.
Two dance instructors from YDance delivered a full day of dance in school on Tuesday 16th September, focusing on leadership, building confidence, teamwork and developing skills. YDance is the national dance organisation for young people aged 3 to 21 in Scotland and works through key partnerships in education, culture, health and sport, to provide a range of high quality dance experiences across 3 main areas of work – education, participation and talent.
Pupils who participated in the workshop were given the opportunity to apply for a course in leadership which will be run during the October week. This will provide our youngsters with the skills to lead dance groups within the school.
The workshop ended with a fantastic dance display for staff and senior students. (pictured)
Primary – Secondary Liaison Meeting
The first transition meeting of the session took place on Wednesday 17th September. Head Teachers from our partner Primary Schools met with Mrs Munro and
Mr Johnston to plan for a wide range of exciting transition events for P7 pupils for this session. Our programme began last week with our highly successful Open Evening. (photo)
Our Partnership Officer June Ford joined the meeting to give a report on our summer school programme for P7 pupils. This took place during the first week of the summer holidays and was a fantastic success. Plans are already in place for next year’s Summer School. (Pupils at Summer School taking part in team building activities at Fordel Firs outdoor centre). We are very much looking forward to all of the transition events planned for the coming session.
